Add wireless/3G data status to the bottom of the screen.
You could add a small indicator to show if the phone is currently using the wireless network or if it's using the GSM / 3G network.
The same could be implemented for other things like battery status and messaging (e-mail and SMS). I do not yet know if missed calls show up.
This seems to be quite important to me as it was the only use for the standard lock screen I had (besides locking my screen obviously).

On top of that, maybe even have a power control widget that would allow you to toggle GPS, Bluetooth, etc. Like the power widget in donut(I am running cyanogen 4.1.11.1 as of now and that widget is nice)
